Announcements, The Beacon Campaigns, The Lady of Souls

Introducing: The Lady of Souls

Ladies and gentlemen, let me present to you now my debut novel.

Debut cover of “The Lady of Souls” by Jenn Gott

The Lady of Souls is the first book of the Mannly-Fellows series: a 19th-century second-world fantasy saga. Do you like adventure? Steam trains? Diverse casts, with strong roles for women and minorities? Haunted pickle jars? The Lady of Souls balances humor with darkness, adventure with personal growth.

You can read the official description here, and the first chapter here.

So when is it coming out? How soon is “soon”?

Because I’ve never published a novel before, I am hesitant to pin down an EXACT date—I’ve been a fan of too many people that promise a product by X and then have to delay it over and over again for Unforeseen Circumstances, and I hate that. But if all goes well, soon is VERY soon: by the end of October soon.

What formats will it be available in/where can I buy it?

The ebook is coming out first, and I am starting with four retailers: Amazon, NOOK, iBooks, and Kobo. There are several others that I am thinking about expanding to, but I haven’t made up my mind yet.

A print-on-demand physical book is going to follow, but probably not until either late 2014/early 2015. I want to give the ebook a chance to get out there into the world, and make sure that I’m doing everything correctly before I commit to physical printing and binding. Probably a trade-paperback at first, although ideally long-term I want to offer a hardcover as well.

Who made your cover?

That cover is the work of my brilliant husband, Graeme Gott.

You say this is the first book of a series—when will Book Two be released, and how many will there be total?

There will be six. I’m hard at work on Book Two as we speak (in fact, I’m taking a break from it to write this post), and the heavy lifting of it will be done by the end of the year. Book Two should follow sometime in the first quarter of 2015, details to be announced.

I hope to maintain a fast production cycle on all of these books, and get them into your hands as quickly as possible. But I will not rush it and put out shoddy work. 2 books a year is my minimum goal.

All right, I think that covers the basics! Anything else you’d like to know? Leave me a comment or drop me an email, and I’ll be happy to address them. In the meantime, please share the news around! I am so excited to finally show you all what I’ve been working on.
